The ‘Two Scots’, Gordon MacKay and John Duff will be our speakers this month.

Although Gordon has been working with the bees since the late 90’s he definitely still considers himself a beginner. 

The world of plants and all things horticultural is what originally pulled him into the fascinating craft of apiculture; the pull has never stopped. He tries his best to look after his honey bee colonies  in the Cowichan Valley as well as still being very much immersed in the horticultural world.

Presentation:

‘The Dark Side of the Hive’

In this presentation we’ll will be posing  some mysteries and potential (dare I say it…) flaws of honey bees.

The motivation and influence for putting this one together was from  some of our own confusion around bee behaviour and also some salient points posed in the brilliant book; The Dark Side of the Hive’ by Moritz and Crewe

 

John’s a beginner beekeeper in his twelve year.

He endeavors to create as natural home for the bees as possible. John loves talking about hive temperate regulations, hive placement and is most well known for discovering the murder hornets in North America.

The presentation is a rebuttal to Gordon’s talk on the dark side of the hive.
